Orderly Must Prioritise Workload

Check Gas supplies daily, and order online when required. Always keep 2 days supply available, and stay within maximum allowable number of cylinders. Be sure to keep a record / proof of what is ordered.

Gas Check & Ordering

Check Linen supplies daily, but only order linen online on Tuesday and Friday, before 10am. Linen is delivered on Wednesday (when ordered Tuesday) and Monday, (when ordered Friday) Essential to have enough Blankets, Sheets, and Patient Gowns on hand.

Linen Ordering

Always keep in mind of delay times for each item ordered may be different from each company. Do NOT reorder an item that is already on back order. If in doubt, check with theatre manager.

Always check theatre lists for the upcoming week ahead, so there is enough stock for those operations, prior to the operation day. 


Daily Routine

Collect radio and keys. Check gas board. Collect order sheet from Jo’s office. Always notify recovery staff, if leaving the floor to go downstairs for any reason.

Setting up all first cases is first priority. Ensure all required equipment is in each theatre prior to list starting. Check for correct theatre table, and attachments. Ensure cabling is taped to floor to prevent trip hazards. Also ask scrub nurse if anything else is required. Stay inside theatre until patient is asleep, and always ask if you may leave the theatre. Very next thing to do is have patient trolley setup outside theatre. Check there is enough oxygen in the patient trolley oxygen bottle. Put correct oxygen tubing on to patient trolley oxygen bottle.

Most cases require a pat slide and slide sheet to be placed onto the patient trolley.

MONDAYS - Check if there is an eye list on Monday (Done each second Monday) Ensure theatre setup for eye list. Eye Beds should have been prepared on the previous Friday, if there is an eye list on Monday. Put eye bed batteries on chargers in Recovery after each eye theatre list. Eye beds must be washed and made up between cases and put in induction room behind theatre 2, after Mondays list, in preperation for Tuesdays list.

Drug order sheet to recovery. Order sheets to be completed by Wednesday.

Following Usual done on Friday for eyes Monday.

Remove theatre table if it’s in OT2, plug it in to charge.

Eye beds made up and moved behind OT2. Check all batteries on beds. Each bed has sheet and 1 pillow. Same for Tuesday’s and every second Monday there is an eye list. Important to charge batteries after eye list.

Check and setup other theatres.

Theatre 1 usual setup for plastics.

Purple bed, 2 arm boards, diathermy at end of bed, enough blueys, enough diathermy plates, enough SCD small, medium,large. Put light source in ot1.

Wash and remake beds after each patient. Remove and charge batteries after eye list.

Check for linen delivery / stock scrub cupboards.

NO LINEN ORDER DONE MONDAYS.

Tuesday’s: LINEN ORDER MUST BE BEFORE 10am, that will last till Friday. Ensure running check is complete and linen order is confirmed. Orderly must pre make up trolleys for Wednesday list. Colons and endos in OT3

Wednesday’s check OT lists and setup theatres. OT1 - if pain list, ensure Silver based OT table (Silver sliding table top) is put into OT1)

If OT2 has dental, and or OT3 has colons or endos, be sure theatre table has been removed from theatres, and put on charge. Remove 2 of the charge eye bed batteries and charge remaining batteries (so all are charged)

All stock order must be done by WEDNESDAY by 10am. These items usually arrive Thursday or Friday.

Tidy and restock change rooms each day, check toilets for sanitizer and paper towel. Also do this for all sinks, including scrub sinks.

Thursday:

AFTER setting up theatres for Thursday list, clean and make up trolleys.

DO NOT ORDER LINEN THURSDAY Put away stock deliveries.

FRIDAYS: DO LINEN ORDER BEFORE 10am

Possible Dental cases in OT3

Everyday, check and replace oxygen bottles on all theatre trolleys. Check OT3 has full carbon dioxide spare bottle in corner.

Each day rostered. Check in with Jo at 8 hours and ask if to go home. Tell jo what is left to be done.

Every day ensure running sheet completed.

Oderly MUST tell manager when it is their finish time, and ask if they should go home or continue working after finish time. EG: If rostered to finish work at 16::00hrs, see manager at 15:45hrs before leaving hospital.
